K Bike Handlebar Mirrors

K bike Mirror Styles:

There are two basic K bike handlebar mirror styles. I refer to them as "flat" and "aero."

BMW Part Numbers

The following table lists various K bike handle bar part numbers and their application based upon what I can discern from the BMW Electronic Parts Catalog. I can't guarantee that it is correct but I think it is.

51161453079	This shows up as an Australian mirror used up to 12/86 on both sides of K100s, K75Cs and K75Ss. I don't know anything about it aside from that.

In general, K bike mirrors are "ambidextrous." You can spin the mirror 180 degrees on its ball to make it a right or left mirror.

Most K bike mirrors mounting stems pass all of the way through the holes in the clutch and throttle perches and are secured with an M8 locknut. However, I have come across some that are reverse thread and thread into the throttle perch itself. I couldn't find any indication of this in the parts catalog though.

Mirror Extenders

Many people complain about their shoulders getting in the mirror view and wonder if there are mirror extenders that will work on K bikes. I have not done this myself so I don't have first hand experience but I think that a set of 8mm mirror extenders like the ones pictured below would do the trick

You would most likely need to get longer M8 bolts than are provided with them in order to have the bolt pass all of the way through the clutch and throttle perches. (If you're in the US, ACE Hardware stores usually have a good selection of metric hardware - or you could just use 5/16" hardware since that is 7.938mm.)

To use the stock mirrors you would probably want to shorten the lower mounting portion of the mirror and thread it to 8mm because adding some sort of spacer might look kind of dorky.

Or now that you have a more normal depth mount at the end of it you could install some aftermarket mirrors made by Emgo, Bikemaster or a host of other aftermarket companies.

Use On Other Classic K models

These handlebar mirrors will not work with RS fairings but I've seen pictures where people have added them to RT/LT K bikes.
